Selecting 32-bit or 64-bit

To check if you are currently running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system simply right-click on “My Computer” and select “Properties” in the menu displayed. The currently installed system will be displayed under “System”.

Important: The 64-bit editions of Windows require a system with a 64-bit processor and 64-bit system drivers. Before installing, please confirm that your system, applications, and devices are compatible with the 64-bit edition of Windows.

Note: Your back-up disc must match your current system type. 32-bit versions are only valid for 32-bit systems and 64-bit versions only for 64-bit systems.

Disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

General information
The EU Directive on WEEE places an obligation on the producers of electronic and electrical equipment to take-back 'end-of-life' or waste products free of charge in an effort to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfills. Member States had to transpose the WEEE Directive into national law to 13 August 2004. The WEEE Directive will allow consumers to dispose of electronic and electrical equipment for recycling free of charge. Waste management costs will be integrated in the product price at the time of purchase.
Distributors like arvato distribution GmbH which sell products to private customers are responsible for ensuring that electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) can be returned and have to facilitate the take-back of household WEEE from EU consumers. Therefore arvato has decided to fulfil its obligations in this area by joining a pan-European take-back scheme managed by the European Recycling Platform (ERP).

Product categories
The following product categories that can be purchased on the Microsoft Store are covered by the directive:

  • IT and telecommunications equipment (e.g. hardware equipment for personal computing)
  • Toys, leisure and sports equipment (e.g. X-Box gaming console)

Take-Back options
Please consider that electronic devices that you do not want any longer may be useful to others. Therefore bear in mind to donate it to specialised associations that will look for appropriate reuse.
End customers in private households can leave their electrical and electronic equipment at local recycling centres. Special bins are placed there where you can leave your EEE in safety.

In order to assure ecological disposal please consider that products marked with the symbol below are not to be put to your domestic waste but to local collection points (local recycling centres).
